Waterpolo news
Team of the Week: Men’s Waterpolo
Team captain Jeff Wright says that their playing keeps getting better and better. The team are undertaking “extra-hard” swimming training in order to improve fitness, and experimenting with new techniques and strategies in waterpolo training sessions. York University player Tiago Motta was the tournament’s highest scorer, and has a large part to play in the team’s success.
York University Waterpolo is currently playing against a number of ‘top-tier’ teams, whilst they themselves are ‘second-tier.’ Playing friendlies against such teams as Sheffield University appears to be a major factor in the team’s rapid improvement, and Wright adds that “we are playing as many top-tier teams as we can”. York University Waterpolo will be playing against Durham University this weekend, and hope that their extra training will pay off.
The team are very ambitious for the near-future. As a result of winning their BUSA Group, they are going into a trophy competition with all the other second-tier winners. If York University Waterpolo comes in the top 4 in the competition, they will be promoted to the first-tier. Wright declares that “it will be a tough ask, but we are getting better with every game.”
